MAISON CHAMPY

WINE BOUTIQUE

LISA BOND | 2018
RENOVATION OF A WINE BOUTIQUE DE LA MAISON CHAMPY A BEAUNE
BEAUNE | FRANCE

In 2018, Lisa Bond completed the challenging renovation of the 3 story Heritage building, “Boutique - Maison Champy” in the historical town of Beaune for the winery “Maison Champy”. The oldest Wine Estate in Bourgogne, dating back to 1720 and currently owned by the ADVINI Group. Working in close collaboration with Philippe Puvieux (of Corniche Architects Marseille) Antoine Leccia (President of the ADVINI Group) and, Thierry Bellicaud (CEO of Maison Champy & Domaine Laroche).

It was immediately obvious to all how privileged it was to acquire this prestigious location in the epicentre of Beaune.

The boutique Maison Champy is situated between the landmark of the old Beaune market-place called, “Les Halles” and, the world-heritage listed site, “Hôtel-Dieu - Hospices de Beaune”. Dating back to the 14th century and is one of the best preserved renaissance buildings in Europe, which receives over 400 000 visitors annually. Beaune was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2015 because of its historical importance in wine production and the unique system of terroir in the region. Beaune has a rich historical and architectural heritage. Beaune is considered the wine capital of Burgundy and remains one of the key centres of Wine in France and specifically famous for the annual wine auction at the “Hospice de Beaune”.

The interior of the old building had been neglected and suffered from years of mis-use and had become fragile and unstable. Keeping just the outer original stone-wall shell, the interior had to be completely gutted and rebuilt within a short period of 6 weeks.

“The process of converting a heritage site to contemporary use is a rare science and a fine art.”

Because of its unique location, the exterior and interior design elements were closely monitored and scrutinized by the “Architects de Bâtiments du France” (the “ABF”).

“Unique in its design and execution, the boutique is unlike any other.”

"A place for real discovery, the space was imagined with a chic, warm atmosphere that invites you on an unusual exploration of the exceptional heritage of the oldest winemaker in Burgundy. You will discover three centuries of history, retracing the milestones of Maison Champy’s construction, development and innovation, as well as the winemaking and artisanal know-how that is at the forefront of its everyday activity.”
