RENOVATION OF THE RESTAURANT LA PARENTHÈSE
SEMUR EN AUXOIS | FRANCE
Lost in medieval history and forgotten by the modern world the village of Semur en Auxois sits deep in the Burgundian countryside.
Lisa was commissioned to redesign and renovate ‘La Parenthese” in 2013, by Roger Mias, a Burgundian hotel & restaurant owner. The idyllic village of Semur-en-Auxois is built on a pink granite bluff encircled by the in an
ox-bow carved out by the Armancon river. The restaurant is located in the village square which is dominated by
a gothic style church called “La Collégiale Notre-Dame”, founded in 1225.
Being a French government heritage site, the exterior design of the facade of the restaurant had to follow the strict guidelines of the Architectes des Bâtiments de France (the world recognized “ABF”). The interior design of “la Parenthese” is refined and elegant with a contemporary edge, the perfect marriage to its “haute cuisine”. The modern lighting and layout cultivate the mood. The sensual nature of the materials were key to the design with the solid repurposed natural Oak flooring with bespoke mahogany timber furniture and luxurious deep velvet seating.
Careful design thought was given to the acoustic properties of the restaurant, one of the most important criteria in Restaurant design for Lisa. Finishing off the space was the ultra-modern contemporary glass & oak CNC partitions.
A perfect combination between the old and new, glamorously balancing the past and present.
“These spaces are for creating a more intimate pleasurable, memorable experiences...”
