Located on Bree Street in Cape Town, the Heritage Hotel is situated in a beautiful free-standing quarter of Heritage Square. it sits in the heart of the fashion, design and chic eatery district near to the city-centre.

 

Victoria Englehorn purchased the property and in 2009 commissioned Lisa Bond to undertake extensive renovations on a very tight turnaround time of less than 6 months planning and 2 months of construction.

 

The project had to be meticulously planned beforehand so that during the 2-month winter maintenance closure, the renovations could be undertaken without interruption to the normal flow of business. 8 weeks of intense restoration, redecoration, with Lisa’s best teams working around the clock. There were many challenges along the way, frequent on heritage sites, but with Lisa’s absolute dedication, passion and extreme team motivation she was able to complete the renovation of the Heritage Hotel.

 

DESIGN POINTS

The building was stripped of all the ugly “plaster & wall-paper” layers exposing her original history and weathered charm. To balance this old character the “Englehorn” brief included the addition of numerous Modern African Art pieces to adorn the walls and hallways of each level in the hotel. This mixture of old-world chic and Modern African Art was a first of its kind in Cape Town. Each room was carefully studied to bring out the individual character held within its walls.

This being said, no two rooms are the same and each has a distinct view of Cape Town from Lion’s Head to Table Mountain. Additionally, many of the original furniture pieces, dating from as far back at the 1880’s, were refurbished, re-upholstered and reused throughout the Hotel. Along with the non-stop renovations, two new rooms were added along with an iconic roof-top deck which was completed with a family-size jacuzzi.
